The Guide To Estimating the Cost of a Commercial Demolition Project

The Guide To Estimating the Cost of a Commercial Demolition Project

If you’re beginning a commercial demolition project, you need to know how much the job will cost. Planning your budget is a huge step in the demolition process. Here are several things to keep in mind when estimating the cost of your commercial demolition project.

SQUARE FOOTAGE

While the average cost of a demolition in America is $30,500, the square footage of the structure can greatly reduce or increase that cost. Having an accurate measure of the square footage can allow you to estimate the possible cost. Keep in mind that as the square footage of the structure increases, the cost normally decreases, averaging $4 - $8 per square foot.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

If a structure was built in the 1980’s or earlier, there is a higher chance that it was built using asbestos and other hazardous materials. If these items are present, they will need to be removed properly by a professional, increasing the cost of the demolition. The price of the removal of these types of materials averages around $2 - $3 per square foot.

PERMITS AND LICENSES

Naturally, before beginning a commercial demolition project, the proper paperwork will need to be submitted and approved. These types of documents, including those from the utility companies, can cost several hundred dollars and even exceed several thousands of dollars depending on the location and size of the demolition.
